Inglés conversacional: frases clave

Las frases imprescindibles que debemos conocer para poder mantener una conversación en inglés y que enseñamos en los cursos de inglés de Callan School Barcelona.

¿Qué significa dominar un idioma? Dominar un idioma consiste en poder mantener una conversación con fluidez y naturalidad. Para que esto se produzca no podéis olvidar, aunque estéis estudiando inglés, la importancia de saber algunas frases que aparecen siempre en una conversación.

 

Comenzamos… El encuentro

Cuando queremos mantener una conversación lo primero que debemos saber es cómo iniciarla. La forma correcta de empezar es preguntando a nuestro interlocutor cómo está e incluso hacerle alguna pregunta sobre su vida. Veámoslo con los siguientes ejemplos:

  • How are you? (‘I’m good!’ ‘Great!’) / ¿Cómo estás? (‘¡Estoy bien!’, ‘¡Genial!’).
  • How’s it going? (‘Good, looking forward to summer vacation!’ ‘Can’t complain; life is good!’). / ¿Cómo te va? (‘¡Bien, estoy deseando que lleguen las vacaciones de verano!’, ‘¡No puedo quejarme, la vida es buena/me trata bien!’)
  • How was your Christmas? (‘Great, I ate so much!’) / ¿Qué tal la Navidad? (‘¡Genial, comí mucho!’).
  • How’s Molly? (‘She’s good, playing lots of tennis these days.’) / ¿Cómo está Molly? (‘Ella está bien, está jugando mucho al tenis estos días’).

    Continuamos… Los planes futuros

    Una vez iniciada la conversación, la forma más natural de continuarla es preguntar sobre sus planes. Podemos preguntar qué va a hacer próximamente. Imaginemos que es viernes y nos encontramos con una compañera, seguramente le preguntemos qué planes tiene para hoy o para el fin de semana.

  • (On a Thursday or Friday): What are you up to this weekend? Any plans for the weekend? (‘Nothing much, playing golf on Saturday and going to the in-laws’ for lunch on Sunday.’) / (Es jueves o viernes): ¿Qué vas a hacer este fin de semana? ¿Tienes algún plan para el fin de semana? (‘No mucho, jugar al golf el sábado e ir a almorzar con mis suegros el domingo»).
  • Any plans for the Christmas holidays? Are you going anywhere for Christmas? / ¿Tienes algún plan para las vacaciones de Navidad? ¿Vas a ir a algún lado en Navidad?

    Seguimos… El Trabajo

    Otra de las preguntas más habituales que solemos hacer es sobre cómo le va el trabajo, si hay alguna novedad, etc. Algunas de las preguntas más habituales son:

  • How’s everything at work? How’s life at the office treating you? / ¿Cómo va todo en el trabajo? ¿Cómo te trata la vida en la oficina?
  • How’s work? Anything new to report? / ¿Cómo va el trabajo? ¿Algo nuevo que contar?

    Concluimos… La despedida

    Podemos estar conversando horas y horas o sólo tener una conversación de cortesía porque tenemos prisa, en ambos casos hay un momento en que debe terminar y, tal Looney Tunes que finalizan su festival cada día por mucha lastima que les provoque, para hacerlo disponemos de múltiples frases como:

  • ‘Well, I have to be back at the office soon, I should go now.’ / ‘Bueno, tengo que estar de vuelta en la oficina pronto, debería irme ya’.
  • ‘I’ve got to pick my son up from school, I should get going.’ / ‘Tengo que recoger a mi hijo en la escuela, debería irme’.

    • Después de comunicarle el motivo que nos obliga a ausentarnos, y como somos educadas y educados, deberíamos rematar la conversación con un: ‘It was great seeing you’ (Fue un gusto verte) or ‘So nice seeing you.’ (Es un placer verte). E incluso podemos mostrar nuestro interés por volver a vernos, si es lo que deseamos con:

  • ‘It was great seeing you, Anna’. ‘Let’s have coffee soon!’ / (Fue genial verte, Anna. ¡Quedamos a tomar un café pronto!
  • ‘So nice seeing you, Jordi’. ‘We should get together for lunch soon!’ (Qué gusto verte, Jordi. ¡Deberíamos quedar para comer pronto!

    The end

    Hay diferentes expresiones que podemos utilizar para decir adiós en inglés. Es importante recordar que la palabra ‘goodbye’ en sí misma suena muy formal y que los angloparlantes rara vez la usamos. En cambio, habitualmente decimos:

  • Bye bye! (¡Adiós!)
  • See you! (¡Nos vemos!)
  • See you tomorrow/next week/tomorrow morning, etc. Nos vemos mañana / la semana que viene / mañana por la mañana, etc.

    Esta frases os ayudarán en una conversación, pero la mejor manera de mejorar vuestras destrezas en el área oral es estudiando inglés con un método directo, natural y comunicativo con el que podáis escuchar y hablar inglés en cada clase y no os dediquéis sólo a realizar ejercicios gramaticales. Al practicar en cada lección la escucha y habla activa, comprobaréis un gran evolución en vuestras habilidades de comunicación verbal.

    Les frases imprescindibles que hem de conèixer per a poder mantenir una conversa en anglès i que ensenyem en els cursos d’anglès de Callan School Barcelona.

    Què significa dominar un idioma? Dominar un idioma consisteix a poder mantenir una conversa amb fluïdesa i naturalitat. Perquè això es produeixi no podeu oblidar, encara que estigueu estudiant anglès, la importància de saber algunes frases que apareixen sempre en una conversa. Vegem-ho!.

     

    Comencem… La trobada

    Quan volem mantenir una conversa el primer que hem de saber és com iniciar-la. La forma correcta de començar-la és preguntant al nostre interlocutor com està i fins i tot fer-li alguna pregunta sobre la seva vida. Vegem-ho en els següents exemples:

  • How are you? (‘I’m good!’ ‘Great!’) / Com estàs? (‘Estic bé!’, ‘Genial!’).
  • How’s it going? (‘Good, looking forward to summer vacation!’ ‘Can’t complain; life is good!’). / Com et va? (‘Bé, estic desitjant que arribin les vacances d’estiu!’, ‘No puc queixar-me, la vida és bona/em tracta bé!’)
  • How was your Christmas? (‘Great, I ate so much!’) / Què tal el Nadal? (‘Genial, vaig menjar molt!’).
  • How’s Molly? (‘She’s good, playing lots of tennis these days.’) / Com està Molly? (‘Ella està bé, està jugant molt al tennis aquests dies’).

    Continuem… Els plans futurs

    Una vegada iniciada la conversa, la forma més natural de continuar-la és preguntar sobre els seus plans. Podem preguntar què farà avui com què farà el pròxim cap de setmana. Imaginem que és divendres i ens trobem amb una companya, segurament li preguntem quins plans té per a avui o per al cap de setmana.

  • (On a Thursday or Friday): What are you up to this weekend? Any plans for the weekend? (‘Nothing much, playing golf on Saturday and going to the in-laws’ for lunch on Sunday.’) / (És dijous o divendres): Què faràs aquest cap de setmana? Tens algun pla per al cap de setmana? (‘No gaire, jugar al golf el dissabte i anar a esmorzar amb els meus sogres el diumenge»).
  • Any plans for the Christmas holidays? Are you going anywhere for Christmas? Tens algun pla per a les vacances de Nadal? Aniràs a algun costat per Nadal?

    Seguim… El Treball

    Una altra de les preguntes més habituals que solem fer és sobre el seu treball, com li va, si hi ha alguna novetat, etc. Algunes de les preguntes més habituals són:

  • How’s everything at work? How’s life at the office treating you? / Com va tot en el treball? Com et tracta la vida en l’oficina?
  • How’s work? Anything new to report? / Com va el treball? Una cosa nova que comptar?

    Concluimos… La despedida

    Podem estar conversant hores i hores o només tenir una conversa de cortesia perquè tenim pressa, en tots dos casos hi ha un moment en què ha d’acabar i, tal Looney Tunes que finalitzen el seu festival cada dia per molta danya que els provoqui, per a fer-ho disposem de múltiples frases com:

  • ‘Well, I have to be back at the office soon, I should go now.’ / ‘Bé, haig d’estar de tornada en l’oficina aviat, hauria d’anar-me ja’.
  • ‘I’ve got to pick my son up from school, I should get going.’ / ‘Haig de recollir al meu fill a l’escola, hauria d’anar-me’.

    • Després de comunicar-li el motiu pel qual hem d’anar-nos i com som educades i educats hauríem de rematar la conversa amb un: ‘It was great seeing you’ (Va ser un gust veure’t) or ‘So nice seeing you.’ (És un plaer veure’t). I fins i tot podem mostrar el nostre interès per tornar a veure’ns, si és el que desitgem:

  • ‘It was great seeing you, Anna’. ‘Let’s have coffee soon!’ / (Va ser genial veure’t, Anna. Quedem a prendre un cafè ràpid!
  • ‘So nice seeing you, Jordi’. ‘We should get together for lunch soon!’ (Quin gust veure’t, Jordi. Hauríem de quedar per a menjar aviat!

    The end

    Hi ha diferents expressions que podem utilitzar per a dir adéu en anglès. És important recordar que la paraula ‘goodbye’ en si mateixa sona molt formal i que els angloparlants rares vegades la usem. En canvi, habitualment diem:

  • Bye bye! (¡Adéu!)
  • See you! (Ens veiem!)
  • See you tomorrow/next week/tomorrow morning, etc. Ens veiem demà / la setmana que ve / demà al matí, etc.

    Aquesta frases us ajudaran en una conversa, però la millor manera de millorar les vostres destreses en l’àrea oral és estudiant anglès amb un mètode directe, natural i comunicatiu amb el qual pugueu escoltar i parlar anglès en cada classe i no us dediqueu només a realitzar exercicis gramaticals. En practicar en cada lliçó l’escolta i parla activa, comprovareu un gran evolució en les vostres habilitats de comunicació verbal.

    Las frases imprescindibles que debemos conocer para poder mantener una conversación en inglés y que enseñamos en los cursos de inglés de Callan School Barcelona.

    Truly mastering a language means you can comfortably hold a conversation in that language. One important thing that students sometimes forget is how important it is to know certain phrases in order for a conversation to flow.

     

    Getting started

    Of course the first thing we need to know is how to get the conversation started. Ask the other person how they are, and you can also add a personal question about their life

  • How are you? (‘I’m good!’ ‘Great!’)
  • How’s it going? (‘Good, looking forward to summer vacation!’ ‘Can’t complain; life is good!’)
  • How was your Christmas? (‘Great, I ate so much!’)
  • How’s Molly? (‘She’s good, playing lots of tennis these days.’)

    •  

    Future plans

    A natural way to keep the conversation going is to ask the other person about their future plans. It could be for later in the same day, or for the weekend. Is there a holiday coming up? Is it Friday? Ask them if they have plans.

  • (On a Thursday or Friday): What are you up to this weekend? Any plans for the weekend? (‘Nothing much, playing golf on Saturday and going to the in-laws’ for lunch on Sunday.’)
  • Any plans for the Christmas holidays? Are you going anywhere for Christmas?

    Work

    It is common to ask the other person in a conversation how everything is going at work, if they have anything new to share, etc. Some things we can say:

  • How’s everything at work? How’s life at the office treating you?
  • How’s work? Anything new to report?

    •  

    Bringing the conversation to a close

    Whether you have somewhere to be, or the other person is in a hurry, the conversation must, at some point, end. We can help bring the conversation to a close by saying any number of things, like:

  • ‘Well, I have to be back at the office soon, I should go now.’
  • ‘I’ve got to pick my son up from school, I should get going.’

    • After saying why you must go, it’s polite to say something like ‘It was great seeing you’, or ‘So nice seeing you’. You can then suggest a future plan, if you wish:

  • ‘It was great seeing you, Anna’. ‘Let’s have coffee soon!’
  • ‘So nice seeing you, Jordi’. ‘We should get together for lunch soon!’

    •  

    The end… Saying goodbye
