Many, Much, Few, Little – ¿Qué les diferencia?

  • Many, Much
  • – Utilizamos “MANY” para cosas que podemos contar. Por ejemplo podemos usar “many” con libros, mesas, estudiantes, personas, etc; y diremos: many books, many tables, many students, many people, etc.
Como podéis observar empleamos “many”, con el plural(s) pero también con el llamado plural irregular como: “people”, “men”, “women”, etc.

    – Sin embargo, usamos “MUCH” para cosas que NO podemos contar. Por ejemplo usaremos “much” con agua, dinero, leche, té, café, etc; y diremos: much water, much money, much milk, much tea, much coffee, etc.

Si os fijáis, al contrario que con “many”, al usar “much” utilizamos la forma singular.

  • Few, Little

Por supuesto, podéis aplicarlo igualmente a “few / little”.

No olvidéis practicarlos con los ejercicios que os dejamos a continuación y recordad que nuestros profesores y profesoras estarán encantados de enseñároslo en vuestro curso de inglés a partir del stage 2 del Método Callan y que continuaréis practicándolos en los niveles siguientes.

Many, Much, Few, Little – Què els diferencia?

  • Many, Much
  • – Utilitzem “MANY” per a coses que podem comptar. Per exemple podem usar “many” amb llibres, taules, estudiants, persones, etc; i direm: many books, many tables, many students, many people, etc.
Com podeu observar emprem “many”, con el plural(s) amb el plural(s) però també amb l’anomenat plural irregular com: “people”, “men”, “women”, etc.

    – No obstant això, usem “MUCH” per a coses que NO podem comptar. Per exemple usarem “much” amb aigua, diners, llet, te, cafè, etc; i direm: much water, much money, much milk, much tea, much coffee, etc.

Si us fixeu, al contrari que amb “many”, en usar “much” utilitzem la forma singular.

  • Few, little
  • Si parlem de Few/little veurem que els diferencia el mateix que a many i much.

    – Usem “FEW” per a coses que podem comptar mentre que usarem “LITTLE” per a coses que NO podem comptar.

Per tant abans d’utilitzar qualsevol d’ells (“much / many / few / little”) el primordial és saber si el substantiu que emprarem (llibre, diners, aigua, cadira, …) es pot o no es pot comptar.

Us deixem un petit consell per a recordar-lo, comproveu si la paraula que usareu té plural o no, si té plural utilitzarem “many” i si el nostre substantiu NO té plural; haurem d’usar “much”. Per descomptat, podeu aplicar-ho igualment a “few / little”.

No oblideu practicar-los amb els exercicis que us deixem a continuació i recordeu que els nostres professors i professores estaran encantats d’ensenyar-vos-ho en el vostre curs d’anglès a partir del stage 2 del Mètode Callan i que continuareu practicant-los constantment en els nivells següents.

Today we’ll be speaking about quantifiers in English, but before we begin to go over them in greater detail, it is essential that we understand the basic meaning of each quantifier.

    Many, Much, Few, Little.

  • Many, Much
  • We use “many” to express the idea of a large quantity of something. It is used with things we can count, and we put the plural form after it. For example, we say many books, many cats, many pencils, many tennis balls, etc.
However, the plural of a noun doesn’t always end in “s.” For example, the words “people,” “children,” “men,” and “women” are all plurals.

We use “much” to express the idea of a large quantity of something as well, but it is used with things we cannot count. For example, we say much water, much money, much milk, much patience, etc.

Si os fijáis, al contrario que con “many”, al usar “much” utilizamos la forma singular.

  • Few, Little
  • The meaning of the words “few” and “little” is the opposite of “many” and “much:” we use them to express a small quantity of something. We use “few” with things we can count, and “little” with things we cannot count. For example, “few books” and “little coffee.”

As we can see, the most important thing we must determine before using any of these words is if we are dealing with a countable word or an uncountable word. One trick that can help you determine this is checking whether the word has a plural form or not. If it does not have a plural form, we use “much” or “little.” If it has a plural form, “many” or “few.”

Don’t forget to practice what you’ve learned here in the exercise below. Remember that our teachers are happy to explain the meaning of these words starting in stage 2 the Callan Methodand that you will practice them a lot in the following stages.
